Places to visit in Ayodhya
Ram Janmabhoomi
The literal meaning of this place can be translated to the birthplace of Shri Ram. It is believed to be the birthplace of Hindu Deity Shri Ram.
According to Ramayana, Lord Ram is the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu. It is said that Lord Ram grew up in Ayodhya near Sarayu River.
That is why the city holds a major importance for Hindus.
After decades of long conflict for the site, the Ram Janmabhoomi land was handed over to a trust by the supreme court of India to build the Ram Mandir. The grand ceremony for laying the foundation stone for the temple in Ayodhya was performed on 5th August 2020 by the Prime Minister of India.
The Ram Janmabhoomi site is the location of the famous Babri Masjid. It is believed that the Mughals destroyed a Hindu shrine and built the mosque at the birthplace of Lord Ram.

Hanuman Garhi
Situated in Sai Nagar, Hanuman Garhi is a temple built in the 10th century dedicated to Hindu God Hanuman. He is known for his ultimate and divine devotion to Lord Ram.
The temple holds huge significance, and it is a belief that devotees should visit Hanuman Garhi before visiting the Ram Mandir in Ayodhya.
It is a strong belief that Lord Hanuman guards Ayodhya by living inside the temple. Just the mere presence of Lord Hanuman has protected the city for very long. The hilltop temple has a 76-staircase pathway to the entrance.
Hanuman Garhi temple is surrounded by panoramic views of the hills. The main temple has beautiful interior cave decorated with numerous idols of Lord Hanuman alongside his mother, Maa Anjani.
The temple gets loads of visitors during the month of Ram Navami and Hanuman Jayanti.
Kanak Bhawan
This infrastructural marvel is at the northeastern corner of Ram Janmabhoomi in Tulsi Nagar.
This temple was constructed in 1891 and is famously known as Sone-Ka-Ghar (House made of gold).
It is a holy site dedicated to Lord Ram and his wife Sita.
Kanak Bhavan cites three golden-crowned idols of the two gods under a silver roof in the sanctum sanctorum.
The shrine was a gift to Lord Rama and Sita by the stepmother of Shri Ram, Kaikeyi.
During the renovation the site was entirely renovated by Vrish Bhanu Kunwari. The temple is now managed by Shri Vrishbhan Dharma Setu Trust Private Limited.
Nageshwarnath Temple
Named and Established after the local deity, Nageshwarnath temple is situated next to Theri Bazar in Ayodhya.
It is believed that the temple was made by Kush, who was a son of Lord Rama.
The site is well maintained since the beginning; however, the temple is said to have been renovated in 1750 by Safar Jung’s minister, Naval Rai.
According to legends, Kush came across a Shiva devotee called Naga Kanya when he lost his arm ring in the local bath.
The Nageshwarnath temple attracts loads of devotes during Mahashivratri and Thrayodashi.
The Shiva Barat is a pleasant view to watch, where people feel overwhelmed with spirituality.
Gulab Bari
The Gulab Bari is in Vaidehi Nagar. It is known as the tomb of the third Nawab of Faizabad, Nawab Shuja-ud-Daula and his parents.
It is famously known as the garden of Roses.
The 18ths century marvel of the Gulab Bari is a perfect example of Nawab-styled architecture alongside a huge variety of rose species.
It has beautiful fountains covered with lush greenery. The tomb is protected under the Ancient Monuments & Archaeological Sites & Remains Act.
Gulab Bari is currently a preserved architecture as part of National Heritage.
Treta Ke Thakur
Located at the Naya Ghat of Ayodhya, Treta ka Thakur Temple has idols of various Hindu Gods including Lord Ram, Goddess Sita, Lord Lakshman, Lord Hanuman, Lord Sugreev, & Bharat.
These statues have been carved out of a single piece of black sandstone. It is believed that Treta Ke Thakur was constructed 300 years ago by the king of Kullu at that time.
This unique marvel is built on the same ground where Lord Ram performed the Ashvamedha Yagna. The temple was further renovated in 1700s by the Maratha Queen, Ahilyabai Holkar.
The temple is open for visitors only once a year on Ekadashi. The day is celebrated on the Shukla Paksha’s eleventh day during the month of Karthika based on Hindu Calendar.
A lot of colourful festivities along with traditional celebrations make this day even more wonderful.
Choti Chawni
Famously known as Valmiki Bhawan or Maniramdas Chawni, Choti Chawni is a marvellous and magnificent structure constructed in Ayodhya, made completely out of white marble.
This palace is worth a visit. There are 34 heritage caves, 12 to the south are Buddhist, 17 in the centre are Hindu and 5 in the north are Jain.
This creates an elaborate and significant architecture of brilliance. The Kailasha temple simply adds to the detailed beauty of this impeccable infrastructure.
Sita Ki Rasoi
Sita Ki Rasoi is an ancient kitchen located on the north-western side of Ram Janmabhoomi in Ayodhya’s Rajkot. This kitchen was used by Goddess Sita herself.
The marvellous structure is quite close to Ram Janmabhoomi and acts as a temple that contains some exhibit vessels.
The temple also houses some richly clothed idols of Lord Ram with Sita Mata, Lakshman with Urmila, Bharat with Mandavi, and Shatrughan with Srutakirti.
Goddess Sita is widely known as the Goddess of food or Goddess Annapurna. Hence the temple still follows the tradition of offering free food.
