The Tajikistan Capital City, Dushanbe is a perfect getaway for people who are looking for a nice atmosphere and attractions within walking distance. In this blog we will learn about popular and beautiful tourist spots that are loved by tourists around the globe.
Places to Visit in Dushanbe
Victory Park
One of the best things to do in Dushanbe is to watch the sunset in Victory Park. It is situated on a small hill about one kilometer from the city center and offers the best views of Dushanbe. This is one of the best locations for Dushanbe cultural tours.
You will find the Patriotic war memorial as well as the quaint cafe that gives you a view of the city’s skyline. The best time to visit this destination is right before sunset so you can catch the beautiful sight of the sunset around you.
Rudaki Park
Dushanbe is filled with parks and lush green trees with places to sit and hangout everywhere. Rudaki park is one of the most popular park in Dushanbe. This park is covered with vibrant flowers and roses. You can admire the statue of the famous persian poet Rudaki from the 10th century who is well known as the father of Tajik literature and a national hero in Tajikistan.
Tajikistan’s Highest Flagpole
When you visit Tajikistan, you cannot go back without admiring the highest flagpoles in the world. It is situated in the northern part of Rudaki Park which rises to 165 meters in the air. When the flagpole was completed in 2011, it was considered the tallest one in the world. It is one of the most famous Dushanbe historical sites.
Though it could not keep the record as Saudi Arabia built a higher flagpole in 2014 and now the highest flagpole is found in Egypt. However, the Tajik people are the proud owners of their mast. You can also enjoy a coffee or a cold drink at a cafe in Flagpole Park while admiring the popular sight.
Ismail Somoni Statue
It is one of the famous sights of Dushanbe situated at Dusti Square which translates to friendship square. Tajik people remember Ismail Somoni to be one of the most important leaders of the Samanid States. It was an empire that covered most of Central Asia from the year 819 to 999.
Although Tajikistan was not so significant during these times, Ismail Somoni took the stand for Tajik people. This helped preserve their culture to this day. Today he is the most significant historical figures in Tajikistan and the country’s currency is named after him.
Komsomol Lake
This is one of the most attractive tourist destinations for people in Dushanbe City. Komsomol lake is one of the local's favorite hangout spots. You will find stands selling drinks and snacks along the shore.
The Tajik people come here on hot summer days to cool off in the water. It is a very great experience that gives a lively atmosphere to the tourists.
Navruz Palace
Navruz palace is the world’s largest tea house. It is not so far away from Komsomol Lake. Initially it was supposed to be a regular tea house for the city, but the project soon took a turn and became something bigger than intended.
Today the palace features numerous elegantly decorated halls that are used as art galleries, conference rooms, restaurants, and movie theatres. You can go inside the palace and take a guided tour around the conference room, or you can admire the decorative architecture of the palace from the outside. You will find several pavilions, fountains and ornamented columns.
National Museum of Dushanbe
This is a small museum, but it offers a good glimpse into the history of Dushanbe. You will find a lot of old antiques and a large reclining Buddha Statue from the 7th century. Moreover, the museum includes exhibitions where you can learn about the country’s history, wildlife, and Geography.
The Wall of Great Tajik Writers
The Wall of Great Writers was built during the Soviet Union to honor the greatest writers of Soviet Persian literature. The name “Wall of Great Tajik” is quite misleading as only two out of the eleven figures from the wall were born in Tajikistan.
The other writers came from Iran, Afghanistan and Uzbekistan. Today you can admire the figures represented on these walls along with Soviet Architecure.
Iskander Kul Lake
You will find this location around 2.5 hours away from Dushanbe. Tourists love chilling out at this location which is situated in the northern part of Gissar Valley.
Though there are no lakes in the town, there are several guest houses and restaurants along the shore for tourists where they can enjoy the picturesque views of Iskander Kul Lake situated between the mountains. You can also go hiking around this area but in general it is a place to chill out and enjoy the peacefulness of doing nothing.
