Your full-day tour will start with a visit to Panathinaikos Stadium, the site of the first modern Olympic Games, which were staged there in 1896, after you are picked up from your centrally located Athens hotel. Be sure to pass the Prime Minister's mansion and the former Royal Palace, which are still manned by Evzone soldiers wearing vibrant costume. Before reaching the Temple of Olympian Zeus, which was finished in 131 A.D., you will pass through the historically significant Zappion building, which is now a conference and exposition centre.
After passing the National Gardens, the journey proceeds to Hadrian's Arch and then to the Parliament. Along the way, you'll pass the Russian Orthodox Church, Constitution Square, Old Parliament, National Academy, and National Library. Admire the Acropolis, which dates back to the fifth century B.C. Take in the Parthenon, the Propylaea Gateway, the Temple of Athena Nike, and the Erechtheum with its renowned Porch of Maidens. The new Acropolis Museum is reached after a brief, delightful stroll past the Herodion and Dionysos theatres.
More than 4,000 artefacts from the Acropolis site are kept in the museum, which also features exhibits from the Roman and Byzantine eras as well as the Greek Bronze Age.
